- studied fine art then philosophy at the universities of Reading and Oxford

- rode a bike to Venice and back and decided to spend more time outside England
- taught English as a foreign language in Oxford, Murcia and Hamburg
- taught myself Spanish and German
- published an article on metaphysics and the philosophy of science
- met someone lovely while teaching her English
- followed her to Berlin
- went to Portugal for a while and taught myself Portuguese
- trained as a conference interpreter at the European Commission
- worked as a staff interpreter in Brussels for two years
- learned French
- was given another son (with a different name)
- married someone lovely
- became a freelance interpreter
- built a house in Zepernick on the outskirts of Berlin
- learned windsurfing
- wrote a novel (not published yet)
- lived happily ever after (so far)
