Vote Bush!
Many people outside America are worried that the current President of the United States may be re-elected. Given his record of screwing things up and getting people killed, this concern is understandable. President George Bush is without doubt the worst American president in living memory, has weakened his country, betrayed its ideals and besmirched its name, and has caused incalculable damage in the rest of the world.
The concern outside the United States is misplaced, however: for those who object to the US habits of ill-considered intervention in the affairs of other nations and frivolous inception of unnecessary wars, the best thing that could happen is for George Bush to be re-elected. To understand why, consider these three questions:
- Is America more likely to invade other people's countries and plunge them into anarchy from a position of presumed strength or from a position of recognised weakness?
- Who is more likely to adopt a rational, considered, nuanced approach to the situation in Iraq, which may in the medium term reduce the burden on US forces and free them up for operations elsewhere?
- Who is more likely to approach problems with fundamentalist conviction rather than rational thought, worsening confrontations rather than resolving them, and thus forcing himself to devote the energies of the nation to managing the unfinished battles of the past rather than addressing the challenges of the future?
I think the answers are clear. Thus my message to the American People:
Americans! Keep your country weak! Vote for Bush!
